Since May 2016, where MAGIX bought the VEGAS and other product lines from Sony, new versions have been planned – and they are now here! A range of powerful and feature rich video editors, covering all needs from the entry level to the professional. Find them at the full list of products from MAGIX.
Vegas is split between two series – the VEGAS Pro 13 and the VEGAS Movie Studio 13, each available in a number of different editions.
VEGAS Movie Studio
The VEGAS Movie Studio series more or less follows the price scheme of MAGIX Movie Edit Pro, with prices in the range from about $50 to $140 – or something equivalent in your currency.
The entry level edition is VEGAS Movie Studio – it comes without disc editing and burning, and with a simple editor mode only. It works on touch screens and can handle 10 tracks, each with an unlimited amount of video events. It doesn’t have GPU acceleration, no image stabilization either, but what it does have is all the commonly used features in an easy-to-use package that most likely will provide for tons of fun and useful working time doing videos for many purposes. Sound editing features have been prioritized, with 10 tracks editing and sound effects, envelopes, CD mastering, and more. So what you get is an advanced audio editor in a useful video editor. All for $50.
The other two editions are VEGAS Movie Studio Platinum and VEGAS Movie Studio Suite – and as the names could indicate, they are almost identical, apart from the many additional tools that comes with the suite. The suite is for those who can see the power in having the advanced Sound Forge Audio Studio, the NewBlueFX 3D title editor and video effects, the BorisFX video effect units – and a tutorial DVD to explain some of all this. The main program, in both cases, can handle 20 video tracks, stereoscopic 3D, image stabilization, GPU acceleration, advanced color correction, 50p and 60p projects, OpenFX plugins, and a bunch of other features. For capturing video, you can make rendering templates, and you can work natively in 4K and 3D.
VEGAS Pro belongs to a different price segment, ranging from about $400 to $800.
For this higher price level, you get software that has been optimized for importing and editing movies, images, and music. So this is a more versatile tool. You can benefit from an intuitive user interface and get started with doing high quality work, even if you are a beginner. Work with 2K, 4K, and 5.1 surround mixing. And you can import and export using a very wide range of formats and encodings. The program takes advantage of GPU acceleration and is in general a very fast editing environment. It has image stabilization, advanced color control, professional lighting effects, support for gigapixel images, various titling options, unlimited audio tracks, over 35 audio effects, audio envelopes, video envelopes, track motion control, scripting, and a lot more.
New in this version is an automated quick tool bar with your frequently used tools made easily available below the timeline, there are loudness meters to make it easy for you to utilize the maximum dynamic range, and there is an archiving feature for all project files and all media files used in the timeline.
It comes in three editions:
- VEGAS Pro 13 Edit – Video and audio editing environment with unlimited tracks and events, more than 390 video effects, 3D editing, over 200 2D and 3D transitions.
- VEGAS Pro 13 – DVD Architect Pro included, Nectar Elements dialog processing included, NewBlueFX Video Essentials VI included
- VEGAS Pro 13 Suite – HitFilm 3 Pro included, VEGAS Pro Production Assistant 2 included, Sound Forge Pro 11 included
The VEGAS Pro Production Assistant is a plugin to VEGAS Pro that enhances the product’s batch processing and workflow automation capabilities. It can automate many tedious editing tasks and processes – saving your time for the more creative work.
